Rainfall hits flights at TIA

KATHMANDU: Incessant rainfall has affected both domestic and international flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Friday. According to airport officials, international airplanes have been forced to hold longer due to low visibility. However, no incoming international flights have been diverted or canceled.

Rainfall across the country has hit the domestic flights the most. All flights to Bharatpur, Tumlingtar, Surkhet and Lukla have been canceled for today. TIA Spokesperson Devchandara Lal Karna said that flights to airports having Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) facilities have not been affected.

Airports with Visual Flight Rules (VFR) have been hit-hard by the adverse weather, he said. Jhapa, Biratnagar, Simara, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi have IFR facilities while others don’t.
